Gangneung, Republic of Korea - Switzerland beat Great Britain by 9-5 in Thursday morning's men's tie-breaker to take the fourth semi-final slot of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and go on to face table-toppers Sweden.

With Canada playing United States in the other semi-final, there are now two North American and two European men's teams fighting it out for medals, while two European teams are joined by two Asian teams in the women's semi-finals - the widest spread of nations at this level in Olympic curling history, representing seven different Member Associations.

Great Britain opened the game with last stone advantage and used it to score two points in the first end. Switzerland responded with just one point in the second end. After blanking the third end, Great Britain moved further ahead with a score of two more points in the fourth end, when their skip Kyle Smith tapped out a Swiss stone but kept his own in counting position.

In the fifth end, Switzerland's fourth player Benoit Schwarz drew his second stone into the house to score two points and reduce Britain's lead to 4-3 at the break.

In the sixth end, Britain's Smith was heavy with his final draw to give Switzerland a steal of one point to level the game at 4-4. Britain blanked the seventh end, then Smith drew his final stone of the eighth end onto the button, inside four Swiss stones already sitting there, to take the lead again, at 5-4.

The ninth end gradually built up and eventually, Switzerland's Schwarz brought his last stone between two front guards to clip out the two British stones lying in a cluster around the button, scoring a game-changing five points and giving his team the lead for the first time, at 9-5. Try as they might, Great Britain then ran out of stones in the tenth end to give Switzerland their 9-5 win.

This result means that Switzerland, in fourth place, now face table-toppers Sweden in one of Thursday evening's semi-finals, while second-placed Canada play third-placed United States in the other. Both semi-final games will be played at 20:05 Korean Standard Time (KST).
